Pumpkin nearly trumps turkey in being synonymous with Thanksgiving. And while pie is the obvious route, a pumpkin cocktail is a delicious and fun way to switch up the cocktail service at your holiday celebration. Get your Thanksgiving festivities started a wee bit early and dry run these pumpkin-flavored cocktail recipes this weekend.
Drunken Pumpkin Pie
Served at the Bar at Clement at The Peninsula New York. 700 5th Ave.
2 ounces Stoli Vanilla
1 ounce Kahlua
3/4 ounce Bailey’s Irish Cream
1/4 ounce cinnamon simple syrup
Graham cracker crumbs
Add first four ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a martini glass rimmed with additional simple syrup and graham cracker crumbs.
Atlantico Pumpkin Pie
2 ounces Atlantico Reserva Rum
1 ounce pumpkin pie filling
1 ounce half and half
1/2 ounce simple syrup
Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a cocktail glass. Cinnamon stick garnish.
Pumpkin Spice Margarita
2 ounces 1800 Tequila
2 ounces pumpkin simple syrup*
1/2 ounce orange liqueur
Juice of half a lime
*For the pumpkin simple syrup:
1 can pumpkin purée
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg
2 cups water
First, make the pumpkin simple syrup: combine all ingredients in a saucepan over low heat. Stir for 20 minutes, remove from heat, cool, and strain. Add syrup, tequila, liqueur, and lime juice to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Serve in a Margarita glass rimmed with sugar. Apple wedge garnish.
